Wondering what we have been up to?

Read our Summer 2021 Newsletter to find out more

As we draw together the articles for this newsletter it is both impressive and humbling to consider that despite the huge impact of the Coronavirus Pandemic healthcare professionals continue to go above and beyond in service of the people they serve. Every day our news delivers a grim picture - if only they also chose to report on the commitment and dedication of the professionals involved as they show up day after day, often putting their own health at risk. We would therefore like to take a moment to thank God for the unsung and unrecognised heroes in healthcare systems working around the world.
Many of our partners and tutors have been focused rightly on their local situation, we continue to hold them in our thoughts and prayers.
Despite all of the difficulties of the last year the work of PRIME has continued both online teaching and behind the scenes developing teaching and other resources to help support tutors.
We have all been participating in online meetings, whether it be work, church groups, teaching or family and may possibly be suffering from the new condition “Zoomed-out”! There is no replacement for face-to-face meetings which undoubtedly help to keep the team together. Sometimes it is not that easy, as many have found with some of our UK medical student and junior doctor teaching, when they choose to have their cameras and microphones turned off and don’t engage with discussions!
This edition of the newsletter features some of PRIME’s experiences of online teaching in various parts of the world.
Through these and other programmes we have learnt that online teaching can be effective and probably will, in the future, remain as an adjunct to conventional face-to-face teaching. It does help if you already have met those you are teaching, but you can get to know people quite well after a few sessions. And to be able to bring people in to a teaching session or a support groups from other places without the need to travel might be another way to efficiently share expertise, experience and faith.
Over the past few months a group of Trustees (David Butler, Kate Gerrish, Rachel Hennessy, Tony Kemp) have been leading the development of a five year Strategic Plan for PRIME. With many of our PRIME activities on hold during the Covid 19 pandemic we’ve had the opportunity to look afresh at how PRIME might most effectively contribute to bringing about PRIME’s vision as we begin to emerge from the pandemic.
